GoTeacher and METAA Partner to Offer Free Compliance Assessments to Every District
GoTeacher has partnered with the Massachusetts Educational Technology Administrators Association (METAA) to provide a free technology compliance assessment to every public school district in Massachusetts.
This statewide initiative reflects a shared commitment to helping districts govern technology responsibly as AI adoption accelerates and expectations around student data privacy continue to rise.
Why This Partnership Matters
District leaders across Massachusetts are navigating increasingly complex technology environments. Hundreds of third-party applications connect to district systems, many of which evolve over time, introduce AI features, or change data practices after initial approval.
METAA and GoTeacher share the view that these challenges are not the result of poor intent or weak policies. They are structural. Districts are being asked to manage technology risk at a scale that manual processes were never designed to handle.
This partnership is designed to give districts clarity before problems arise.
What the Free Assessment Provides
Through this initiative, Massachusetts districts can receive a read-only compliance assessment of their Google Workspace for Education environment.
The assessment helps districts understand:
- Which third-party applications are connected to their environment
- What types of permissions those applications have
- Whether access is limited to basic identity or extends into services like Drive
- Where potential data privacy or AI-related risk may exist
The assessment does not store student personally identifiable information and does not disrupt classroom activity. It is designed to support internal review, not to enforce changes.
How Districts Use the Results
Districts use the assessment in different ways depending on their needs.
Some use it to prepare for software renewals. Others use it to brief leadership teams or boards. Many use it as a starting point to refine app approval processes or update AI and data privacy policies.
There is no obligation to move forward. The goal is visibility, not pressure.
A Shared Commitment to Leadership and Student Safety
As trust in educational technology is increasingly scrutinized, METAA and GoTeacher are aligned in their belief that student data privacy and AI oversight are child-safety and leadership responsibilities.
By offering a free assessment to every district, this partnership ensures that all Massachusetts districts, regardless of size or resources, have access to the information needed to govern technology responsibly.
